Mediterranean scent

Corfu was truly a pleasant surprise; a very green island, Mediterranean, beaches washed by a clear sea, pleasant places to visit. Our choice fell on the Louis Grand Hotel Glyfada, both for a good offer found on booking, and because it struck us for its position in front of the long sandy beach. And the choice proved right: the beach is fantastic, perhaps the best on the island, deserted for long stretches, and the sea is truly wonderful, with nothing to envy of the more popular (and expensive) Sardinia. The plan is all inclusive (meals, drinks, sports equipment including canoes and pedal boats, beach and pool loungers and umbrellas), the rooms large and well furnished, the food good though a bit repetitive, the place decidedly quiet. An excellent destination for those seeking a beach vacation in a pleasant environment, surrounded by mountains and pine forests. International clientele.

Recommended!

The most touristy places are within a few km:

- the town of Corfu, with a beautiful historic center, characteristic narrow streets, medieval buildings, souvenir shops, bars, typical restaurants. A stroll is more than pleasant.

- the Achilleion, an elegant neoclassical palace that was among other things the summer residence of Elisabeth of Austria (Sissi), surrounded by a marvelous garden with beautiful views of the sea.

- Kanoni, one of the most photographed spots on the island, where the Vlacherna Monastery is joined to the mainland by a narrow passageway.

- Paleokastritsa, where the most beautiful bays of the island are found. Here the sea offers unforgettable shades, the beach is pebbly and the seabed rocky, particularly suited to snorkeling. The most characteristic spot consists of two bays divided by the road: one is rather "jammed" with boats that take people to the caves along the coast, while the other, very small, is fairly quiet, at least in the morning. From here the road leads to the Monastery at the top of the hill, which offers beautiful views (visit early in the morning because later it becomes a destination for organized excursions).

- Sidari, the most characteristic coast of the island, where a very white cliff rises behind the beach.
