We wanted to go back to Greece after a while, and we chose Mykonos, which we had never visited. Unlike usual, we booked through a tour operator a package with flight plus hotel, bed and breakfast. More than satisfactory flight with Neos (we had never flown with them), perfectly on time. Coach from the airport to the Archipelagos hotel (remarkable), then settled into the room. Car hire and off to see the island. To tell the truth, I expected a very different island, with villages scattered here and there with tavernas by the sea, squares with tamarisk trees, and instead no. One village exists besides Mykonos, and it's Ano Mera; the rest are houses scattered across the island with no real centre. The island is very beautiful, no doubt, with a sea to make the Caribbean envious, but it lacks that extra touch of Greece.
It's extremely expensive: the moment you move, they fleece you, you need an accordion wallet. The one thing that isn't lacking is the chaos, the crowds, the scooters, the quads, which make this island unbelievable. Try Paradise beach, a concentration of decibels that will burst your eardrums at any hour. Anyway, done it, but it's not somewhere I'd go back to, for me who's used to classic Greece, its scents, its flavours. Happy travels to whoever's setting off.
