A whistle-stop day trip to Gibraltar, part of a wider tour of Andalusia; we stay just 2 km from the Rock (the Asur hotel in La Linea) and by 7 in the morning we're already on the move to avoid the long queues at the border with Spain. We manage to admire the sunrise from the Pillars of Hercules (a monument at the top of the Upper Rock), surrounded by the monkeys that inhabit the park; we walk for over an hour, then begin the descent towards downtown. Main Street is the heart of Gibraltar's life and faithfully reflects the typical traits of the “mother country”, with its red telephone boxes, double-decker buses, bobbies, and everything we would never associate with a state just a few steps from Spain and Morocco!! Before leaving Gibraltar, and after a typical English breakfast, we visited Europa Point, for one last look at the Moroccan coast.
