Holiday and work in Düsseldorf.

Day 125 Oct 2007

Arrival

We depart from Orio al Serio with great enthusiasm to discover Dusseldorf, a city unknown to us. There are 4 of us: Me, Maela, Fabio, and Luca, and we work for a company that prints plastic parts. The main reason for this trip is the big fair for plastics and their processing called K. We arrive with Ryanair at Weeze around 11 PM, and we immediately take a car to get to Remscheid, where we'll stay at the Regius Hotel. Unfortunately, at this time in Dusseldorf, everything is fully booked precisely because of this event. The hotel is characteristic, elegant, and above all clean.

The fair and the party

Hearty breakfast and off to messe (the name of the facility where the fair called K2007 takes place). The size of this place is truly exaggerated. We leave the car in one of the many parking lots and take the shuttle to the fair entrance. After a good day of browsing the stands, around 4 PM we leave and head toward the city center (Altstadt). I like the city right away because, besides being clean, it's also very lively, and the streets of the center are very busy. We stop to eat in a pub, and after a few liters of beer, we take a walk to admire this lovely city and the Rhine River that runs through it.

Day 327 Oct 2007

the elegance of the Konigsallee

We get up nice and relaxed, have breakfast and leave the hotel to head to the city center and park near the Kö (Königsallee), the luxurious main street with very expensive shops, where VIPs stroll and buy. We stop in an old brewery with interiors that, according to what the owner said, date back a few centuries. We stop for a snack at a kebab place and have a couple of beers. In the afternoon we browse a few shops in the Altstadt where we watch a cross-country skiing race on artificial snow and the square is set up with wooden stalls typical of mountain towns. Everything takes place near the Rhine and this makes it all the more beautiful. In the late afternoon we say goodbye to this pleasant city and face the return flight with the satisfaction of having gotten to know a city that managed to surprise us.
