The story

From Paris we set off for Normandy. First stop, the city of Rouen with its splendid cathedral.

The journey continues towards the landing beaches. At Omaha Beach there is a monument remembering the fallen. At Arromanches-les-Bains there is the museum dedicated to D-Day and you can also see out at sea the remains of the platform built for the landings.

Arriving at Mont Saint Michel was truly moving; the abbey can be seen from afar. The next day we climbed onto the rock to fully enjoy the tidal phenomenon that characterises this place.....a breathtaking spectacle.

The last stop, not before eating Normandy's excellent oysters, was the town of Fougères, unknown to most but truly lovely (a fortified little town with a splendid castle).
