The story

The legendary climb. Coppi conquered it first in 1952, Pantani won in 1997 with a time that nobody has managed to beat yet. The ascent gave me wonderful feelings, partly for the myth I was meeting, partly for the multitude of people I found along the road tackling it on every kind of bicycle. 21 legendary hairpin bends, each named after the winner of the Tour de France stage that finished there. You set off from Le Bourg d'Oisans (724 m above sea level) to reach, after 14 km and 1091 metres of elevation gain, the famous ski resort of Alpe d'Huez (1815 m above sea level)
