After covering about 3000 km without ever stopping, we agree by common accord to spend at least 5 days in Copenhagen.. We needed it....the journey towards the far north was wonderful but a bit gruelling. We settled into a campsite where we rented bicycles, which are the best way to get around this city. They were just days of relaxation and obviously we also went to the small free republic of Christiania. It is a community of about a thousand people born in the days of the flower children. It still survived with its little shops, its workshops, its stalls of hashish and marijuana and its oddities offered to tourists. It was a free zone, anarchic, a little out of time. The territory of Christiania was a public park bounded by walls and hedges, probably seized with a squat around the sixties.
It was a concrete sign of civil tolerance and of the possible coexistence between two different worlds. It lived in perfect harmony with the classic Copenhagen that pulsed around it. What a lovely place...a pity they dismantled it.
