The story

Two weeks of full immersion in this marvellous country made of wonderful sunsets, breathtaking landscapes and the kindness of the Croatians. Four of us set off in a 206 overloaded with stuff, and in the end we realised it was pointless — a single backpack would have done. It's very much worth renting apartments, 10 euros each and every possible comfort. The first stop is Omis; the sea isn't great but we take the chance to make excursions to Split and to the islands of Hvar and Bol (a marvel of a sea!). From Omis we head south, to Makarska; it's the liveliest spot on the coast, little bars, little markets, in the evening it's all a swarming of tourists. The sea there is truly beautiful and the beaches are lapped by pine trees that create natural shaded areas. Another stop, the island of Korcula... very beautiful, rich in flowers and scents.

Hard to find accommodation, especially around Ferragosto. We stop for two days and go all over the island. Last stop: Dubrovnik: what an enchantment of a city! The old part leaves you breathless, especially at night it's an incredible spectacle. We wander all the alleys full of shops selling corals, kebab houses and little bars where jazz is played... Taking the ship back to Italy costs us a lot of effort, but the memory of this marvellous country will stay with us for a very long time....
