Croatia lies on the other side of the Adriatic; it begins practically 30 km beyond the Trieste border, passing through Slovenia, and its southernmost point lies level with Bari. Setting out from Tuscany, Romagna and all the more southerly areas, it is worth taking the ferry (almost all leave from Ancona) and after 7-8 hours arriving at Zadar or Split. Setting out, instead, from northern Italy, it is more convenient to go through Trieste and come down along the coast. The choice of transport can also be influenced by the ferry costs - 70 euros per car, 50 euros per person one way. In Croatia it is advisable to stay in private apartments: - they cost less than hotels - as there are excellent restaurants, it's a shame to "tie yourself" to the hotel's kitchen. Holiday villages are almost non-existent
