Towards Transylvania (part 2)

Arriving in Zagreb we settled into Hostel Lika, tucked down a side street near the station. Not the most comfortable hostel, but cheap. The first hours of 2006 in this city were very intense, and we spent them in the packed main square of the Croatian capital in the company of some ultra-devout Catholics. “No sex”, “no drugs”, “no alcohol” were the words the friendly girls we met kept repeating. We carried on until morning, wandering through a few of the city's bars. We spent New Year's Day roaming the city with the girls from the night before, with whom we also had an aperitif in a place in the centre. We visited the Cathedral of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, which overlooks Kaptol Square and is the city's most important religious building. We managed to get inside even though it was closed to the public, thanks to the kind permission of the friars and nuns.

Day 12 Jan 2006

2 pm, Zagreb station

After leaving the hostel to head to the nearby station, we were all in agreement to go to Belgrade, but there were still some last attempts at rebellion from Bello. Calmed down immediately. He wanted to go to Bratislava!! After buying the tickets for Beograd, while Guido and Ravenna slept at the station, Bello and I took a little stroll to the nearby Shopping Center. We even ended up on television!! “Peace and love” was the message we left for the new year. The pretty girls at the shopping center distracted us so much that we were late getting back to the station…the other two were sleeping, so we missed the train. We waited for the next train to reach the long-awaited Beograd!
