Back to CROATIA. This time a quick passage heading south, taking in the ISTRIAN peninsula with the delightful VRSAR, ZADAR and the whole Dalmatian coast down to DUBROVNIK, our final destination... on Croatian soil. A detour into Bosnia and Herzegovina is a must! The Makarska riviera is beautiful, and so is the old town of DUBROVNIK enclosed within its ring of walls, despite the crowds of tourists....intense but thrilling first days......before continuing on to Montenegro!

Day 114 Aug 2011

Towards ZARA

Starting from Treviso, we crossed the border between Slovenia and Croatia at Plovanjia heading towards VRSAR, a delightful Istrian little harbour. After a substantial lunch stop we continued towards ZADAR, crossing the Kvarner and the Abbazia riviera. We arrived in Zadar around 17:30. In time for a bit of relaxation by the pool and to enjoy the sunset and the evening in the city. Overnight stay at Hotel Villa Julian. Excellent value for money considering the location and the pool (only if you have a car).

Day 215 Aug 2011

Towards Dubrovnik

After breakfast, heading South again. Motorway as far as Ploce, where we decided to divert into Bosnian territory....

back into Croatia around 15:30, travelling along the whole coast as far as MLINI where we treated ourselves to a bit of rest and a nice swim in the Hotel pool. Evening in Dubrovnik, packed on the evening of Ferragosto but which wins your heart at first glance. Overnight stay at Hotel Villas Plat, about ten kilometres from Dubrovnik, but definitely good value for the services offered compared to what we would have spent in the centre.

Day 316 Aug 2011

DUBROVNIK and then........

The morning was dedicated to visiting DUBROVNIK. We entered the walls at the Ploce gate and managed in just over three hours to see everything this wonderful city has to offer. From the care and the perfect condition to which everything has been restored, it's hard to believe the recent past. Spotlessly clean, beautiful, expensive, it seems to belong to itself more than to Croatia in general. The atmosphere is intimate and cosy yet at the same time chic and elegant. Absolutely a must-see, especially early in the morning when the low crowds allow you to enjoy everything and above all the beauty of a stroll along the stradun. Visit over, we set off again, still heading south....destination Montenegro.
