This is a real hit-and-run trip to Brussels. After a week in Paris I reach the Belgian capital by train. I take public transport to Etterbeek; I have an address, and my aim is to find a girl I met the summer before at a summer camp in Faulx-les-Tombes in the Ardennes. I find the house but the girl is with her parents and pretends not to know me — what a disaster!! No matter, I go back to the centre and spend the day at the Grand Place and around it. It's Sunday, there's a Christmas feel in the streets. With all those restaurants displaying lobsters out on the street I start to salivate, but... alas... I have to make do with a fast food place. In the evening I find lodging in a youth hostel. I'm in a room with an Argentine guy who robs me while I sleep. When I wake up I have no wallet, but luckily I've hidden most of my money in another pocket.
Better to leave Brussels and take the first train to Luxembourg.
