We took a quick car trip to Vienna from Treviso. In one way it was disappointing, because practically everything was closed and the city seemed rather bleak. It also didn't help that I'm not overly fond of cities that are "too imperial". Nevertheless, the area around St. Stephen's Cathedral is a real little drawing room, where it's pleasant and almost obligatory to sit at one of the many cafés with a hot chocolate accompanied by one of the countless excellent traditional Austrian pastries. The cathedral itself, with its fantastic roof, is magnificent! We visited the funfair, with its famous Ferris wheel, the Prater, from which you could enjoy an overall view of the city with its "legendary" Danube — not really that blue and not really that legendary, to be honest... though its width, compared, for example, to the "blond" Tiber, is certainly impressive.
We also visited imperial parks, where the squirrels came right up close to us. The food was good, when you could find a place open, among the various Suppen and Wiener Schnitzel (our Milanese cutlets), though, as always compared with Italy, not very varied. Beautiful was all the "countryside" around the city, which, I must say, I liked much more than the city itself, above all because it was more "authentic".
