The story

We set off on Thursday afternoon after work, thanks to the splendid evening schedule offered by Airberlin. Arriving at the airport on time, we board a Flyniki flight which proves very comfortable thanks to the presence of TV screens and free sandwiches!

Arriving in Vienna we choose to avoid the very expensive CAT, which would also take us to an area far from our hotel, and take a coach whose terminus is Westbahnhof station. Two minutes on foot and we're at the hotel. Unfortunately Vienna is quite expensive, especially if you've just come back from Spain. The hotels in the centre are all pricey, so I had to opt for a hostel that was nonetheless well located near the metro. In any case, you couldn't find anything for less than 69 euros for an en-suite room. Luckily, when we arrived at the hostel our room wasn't ready and just for the first night they moved us to a microscopic room without a bathroom with a nice 30 euro discount. No problem, since two minutes after getting to the room we're ready to go out.

Vienna's evenings offer quite a few venues if you love dark gothic music; in the area where our hotel was we manage to find two within walking distance and we split the evening between these alternatives. Both are half empty, but the music isn't bad and the atmosphere is welcoming; as usual the cocktails leave something to be desired but in the end we still manage to fulfil our aim of having a nice evening.

The next day we visit the architectural beauties of this surprising city. The streets are crowded, but there's no crush or confusion, everyone seems relaxed. There are lots of young people and the city has a lively and cheerful look. Since the weather allowed it, we decided to skip museums in favour of a lovely 50-kilometre walk! CONTINUES ON OUR BLOG:
