I had the chance to return after many years to Innsbruck and Salzburg and I seized it at once. The excuse was the Christmas markets, which in reality turned out to be more disappointing than ever, because they are all strictly the same! I was equally happy, because in any case Austria, like Germany, always proves able to create the right Christmas atmosphere. In Innsbruck there was also time to visit the Tyrolean Folk Art Museum with its adjoining Court Church and the Funerary Monument of Maximilian I, considered the most important funerary monument in Europe. The work consists of an empty sarcophagus with the emperor kneeling surrounded by twenty-four reliefs, which represent the emperor's life, located in the centre of the chapel, and by twenty-eight of the original forty statues that depict the notable figures of that time.
The statues, in bronze, are something incredibly beautiful and... unexpected!
