The story

Berwang in the "Tyrolean Zugspitz Arena"

Berwang, a typical Tyrolean village, lies on a sunny alpine plateau high in the mountains. At an altitude of 1.336 m, Berwang is in fact the highest village in the Zugspitz Arena. The name comes from the German word “Bär” (bear) and means “bear's meadow”. The alpine meadows around Berwang are truly natural gems. The hiker is struck by the very rich flora with over 1.200 typical species of plants and flowers. Situated at an altitude of 1.336 m, Berwang is in fact the highest village in the Zugspitz Arena. Thanks to its elevated position, visitors don't have to travel far to reach the mountains: the hiking trails start right in front of the house and lead up to the peaks with a fabulous panoramic view. The most famous peak among them is the Zugspitze, at 2.962 m the highest mountain in Germany, on the border between Tyrol and Bavaria.

The Zugspitze is reached by a dizzying and daring cable car from the Tyrolean side. Countless are the attractions during the summer, from hiking trails to mountain-bike trails and lakes of the purest water. In winter, the main attraction is naturally the „Skiarea Berwang“, a ski area that on its own comprises a good 36 km of ski slopes and is part of the Zugspitz Arena region with 174 km of ski slopes in total. After a day full of adventure or relaxation, the restaurants in the area prepare typical Tyrolean dishes, a true treat for the palate. Would you like more advice for a holiday in Tyrol? You are always welcome at the small "Residence Sonnleiten" in Berwang!
