Itinerary: 05.08 With a Taca flight from Flores (Guatemala) we reach Cancun and Mexico. After picking up the hire car we head for Chichen Itza. 06.08 A day devoted to visiting the archaeological site of Chichen Itza. The site is evocative and the main pyramid "El Castillo" is particularly imposing, but after visiting Tikal we are less impressed. The climb up and down the Castillo is really steep but from the top, especially early in the morning when the site is almost empty of people, you get a splendid overall view. Unfortunately during the day the site fills up with a myriad of American tourists. In the afternoon we move on to Coba. 07.08 Early in the morning, at opening time, we are already inside the site of Coba. Although it still has structures that are largely awaiting restoration, the site is immense and completely immersed in vegetation.
After walking a few kilometres we reach the main pyramid and can admire, in complete solitude, the view over the jungle... a blend of shades of green dotted with trees bearing fire-red flowers, from which some blue birds took flight... truly beautiful. In the afternoon we visit the site of Tulum, which in itself isn't very interesting but looks out over a picture-postcard sea, and afterwards we reach our resort near Kantenah. Driving the road that leads from Coba to the coast, "escorted" by a myriad of white and yellow butterflies, was really lovely. From 08.08 to 14.08 We spend a week at the seaside in complete relaxation and with every comfort. 14.08 Return to Italy with an AeroMexico flight from Cancun to Mexico City and Air France to Paris and Florence.
