The trip was entirely through a tour operator, so not a DIY one. We took a transfer that brought us from Santo Domingo airport to the village we'd chosen: Viva Dominicus... I must say I wasn't very happy with the resort: there were an enormous number of people, perhaps too many, and the hotel staff weren't perfectly able to handle the situation, so: on the beach there were so many sunbeds that even going for a walk was quite difficult, clean glasses at the open bar were very often missing, etc. etc... the entertainment team, on the other hand, I must say were really very good; although we didn't throw ourselves into it too much, the evening shows were genuinely enjoyable... The landscapes of Santo Domingo are exceptional, and the sea is truly something crazy, but there's a great deal of poverty and you had to be afraid to go around on your own outside the resort.
I'm glad I went, but for the first time I'd say it isn't a place I'd like to return to.
