Day 129 Aug 2005

First impression of Chaweng

The Seascape beach resort awaits us in fabulous Chaweng Beach. Our bungalow is disappointing (compared to what we saw on the website), much better the rooms located in the reception building, on the other hand excellent the beach and the water (very clean). On the beach it's all a coming and going of hawkers while on the Chaweng Road (the main street) it's a continuous honking of horns from taxis and songthaews ready to pick you up. In the evening Laura and I wander around the countless stalls and little shops of the road and continue the "cure" of massages. We dine at Zico's, a Brazilian restaurant (nice place but expensive compared to the other restaurants); obviously all-you-can-eat churrasco.

Sea and more sea

Obviously lots of sea (Laura is already super-tanned) and lots of shopping. We dine at Viavai (excellent first courses) and after a long walk: a nice massage!

Elephant Trekking

In the morning sea (always stupendous as indeed the weather always sun at full blast). In the afternoon an excursion to the (very small) Namuang waterfalls and a 30-minute elephant trekking. They advised us against doing more and indeed it is not the height of comfort staying on an elephant, but it was a beautiful experience. In the evening dinner at Toto's (truly Italian pizza, less so the coffee!)

Angthong

Excursion to Angthong the marine national park. Transfer hotel-Nathon pier with a minibus, where we set off with a boat in the direction of Koh Mae Koh where after a short but tiring flight of steps one arrives at the Talay Nai (that is, the emerald lake), a lake formed upstream of the island. Right after they take us to Koh Wua Talab. Here they tell us that it is worth doing snorkelling, but the truth is that you can't even see a single scrawny little fish. Very beautiful is the inland of the islet where following a not very easy path one climbs up until reaching some fabulous panoramic viewpoints and one can admire monkeys and birds of every kind.

Koh Wua Talab is the main one of the 40 islands of the marine park, here is based the park office and the only tourist facilities are present (for info and bookings of bungalows We return from the excursion a bit disappointed by the terrible snorkelling and a bit tired from the journey (30 minutes the minibus and 90 the ferry on the way there and just as much on the way back). In the evening we return to dine at viavai, after which a nice massage and a drink at the starclub.

The last day

Last swim, last massage and last purchases of a holiday that was nothing short of fabulous, in a land of great culture and tradition, fabulous sea, and fortunately sun every day; a sun that who knows why is more shining than ours...
