A week devoted to nature

Day 125 Sep 2006

Fihalohi Island resort

A week on offer with Hotelplan, roulette formula (€870), full board. Unfortunately we had already pictured ourselves in an excellent resort like the ones proposed in the catalogue, but instead we found ourselves on a good island with good facilities, but starving!! Yes indeed, I have never found a resort with such a pitiful restaurant in my life. Ruthless recycling and super spices everywhere!! Luckily I'm not fussy, but Laura (my girlfriend) and many other Italians did a real fast. Aside from all that, the holiday went great, the rooms were spacious and clean and the island is fabulous. I have never felt so overwhelmed by nature as on this holiday. Both the sea (a stunning lagoon with easily reachable coral reefs) and the interior of the island (full of tropical plants) are picture-postcard perfect, and the wildlife present is proof of it all.

Moreover, I fulfilled one of my dreams: swimming in the middle of a rainstorm (something indescribable!!!). We made friends with some really nice guys who kept us company and didn't make the holiday feel like a burden. In fact, my fear was that I'd get bored, but to be honest I'd gladly have done another week. Excursions we did: the fishermen's island and the sand island (nothing special, but at least we took a couple of walks...). Conclusion: Laura and I promised ourselves we'd return to the Maldives, maybe someday with kids, but definitely not to Fihalohi...

what a sight!!
