Arrival in New Delhi, route through Varanasi — or Benares in English — Bombay, Poona, Goa. India is a very large country, so if you really want to see something you mustn't plan very long routes. We reached the various destinations using public transport, namely trains and coaches — a journey for those with little money to spend and who love to travel while coming into contact with the local people, though it's sometimes very difficult because of widespread poverty. Starting with ordinary people who constantly ask you for money, then taxi drivers or the rickshaw pullers — it's one endless argument, because everyone wants to take you where they say, since they get commissions from the hotels as well as the hostels, etc. Being white is taken to mean having money — and who can blame them!!!
