Day 110 Aug 2005
a white-knuckle flight but in the end you get there you get there
Departure at 12 o'clock from Fiumicino, the control tower gives our plane the go-ahead to take off, a rather elderly plane, just think, it was the first time I'd taken it. After take-off the stewardesses, who speak only French and Arabic, some not even English, or at least they didn't understand me, give us sandwiches with cooked ham, typical Tunisian, with cheese, and Coke and orange soda. At 1 o'clock we've arrived, got settled into the rooms and started to see our legendary hotel, the Rosa Beach.
A tip: when the plane comes in for the Rosa Beach airport, hold on tight, because it has to aim straight to the right, I got motion sicknesssssssssssssssss
Day 211 Aug 2005
ROSA BEACH IN MONSTIR, A HOTEL WORTH A VISIT
On the second day we went to visit the hotel, I'd say it's gigantic. We saw the two pools, indoor and outdoor, and we started to get information about the excursions. Obviously the Tunisians (an intelligent people with a great culture) ripped off the Italian tour operators because they managed to sell us the excursions before them, aaaaaaaaaaa. Lunch and dinner were wonderful.
Day 314 Aug 2005
two days later the journey goes on
Well, two days later we went for the camel ride, what an experience, riding a camel, especially the ones that slobber all over you from behind. Afterwards they even put a Tunisian scarf on you, all in all a great experience. Well, did you know that camels drink Coca-Cola? Well yes, I'm telling you. Let's say they're a bit aggressive, they ride every day. In the end I also got on the donkey, poor thing, I was too heavy for him, he was struggling so hard.
Day 415 Aug 2005
VISIT TO SOUSSE AND BOAT TRIP ON THE MONASTIR SEA
On the second day we went to visit the hotel, I'd say it's gigantic. We saw the two pools, indoor and outdoor, and we started to get information about the excursions. Obviously the Tunisians (an intelligent people with a great culture) ripped off the Italian tour operators because they managed to sell us the excursions before them, aaaaaaaaaaa. Lunch and dinner were wonderful.
Day 517 Aug 2005
MONASTIR TOWN CENTER AND PORTOKANTAWY (A LITTLE ITALIAN KINGDOM IN AFRICA)
We also spent a morning in Monastir's centre, really quite lovely, with shops of all kinds, clean streets, even though there are no traffic lights, in Tunisia there are no traffic lights, and it's full of police. We went to see the president's tomb and did some shopping too, I have the silver chain I bought in that famous ring shop in the centre of Monastir. After a big and excellent lunch and a nap and a swim in the pool, dinner arrives, as always excellent, made of fresh fish and sweets to your heart's content. In the end we leave the Rosa Beach and take a taxi that costs as much as a bus here in Rome, a little more. We go to Port El Kantaoui, a spectacular place, really packed, actually crammed with shops, pubs, pizzerias run almost all by Italians, in fact there's the Italian sign first and then the Arabic one.
Obviously in Port El Kantaoui they try to sell you drugs, the important thing is not to get friendly with them. At 11 p.m. a sandstorm makes our eyes water, nothing happened to me thanks to my contact lenses. The return home ends with a relaxing tea from the legendary Sadim (tea expert at the Rosa Beach), which makes me need the bathroom. At 01:00 I fall asleep with the TV on.
Day 618 Aug 2005
END OF THE TRIP FAREWELL ROSA BEACH (they even gave us the coke and morning breakfast for free)
5:00 a.m., we come down from our rooms for the last breakfast, requested by me for the whole group at the Rosa Beach. The bus is waiting for us to go to the airport, the plane is ready to take off and waiting for us, we get on the plane leaving for Rome, ugh, the holiday is over. I recommend everyone, of any age, to go to Monastir and the Rosa Beach, it's stunning and costs very little. End of the trip, here we are back in shitty Rome, bye.
