Departure for Djerba with a Tunis Air flight from Malpensa. A good airline, the flight fairly on time, excellent on-board service despite the shortness of the flight, and the staff are very courteous too. I set off alone but already at the airport I meet three very nice girls, Michela, Cristina and Esmeralda, with whom I will share the whole week!
On this, my second trip to Tunisia, I once again wanted to escape a little from the customs of the classic Italian resort that I often use as a base for my travels. As a resort, the Negresco can be described as "cosy and sunny" compared with the one next door, also Veratour, namely Le Palais des Iles....let's say that all in all I prefer it; deep down the atmosphere here is friendly, you make friends easily precisely because it isn't sprawling...I found the room clean, the entertainment good and respectful of my space. The only slightly sore point, the restaurant...monotonous food and not very clean plates. Suggestive and very relaxing is the open-air corner just outside the central bar, where in the evening you can smoke the narghile; you'll breathe a typically Tunisian atmosphere, sitting on the ground...
This time I didn't do any desert excursions because it was too hot....so I chose to relax on the beach, but instead of lying in the sun the whole time, I went to discover the life that unfolds every day on this endless stretch of beach, learning how the locals I met during my long walks along the shore spend their day or their weekend.
Sociable, cheerful and smiling (at times a little too insistent, I mean especially the beach vendors, whom you must not get too friendly with or they'll never let you go!) they made me feel very welcome. They are young camel drivers, street vendors, fishermen, Berber women, families with children who make the beach an opportunity to earn a living, to relax at the weekend or take a short break during the day.
To them, a warm thank you and see you soon!
