After 40 minutes we reach a plateau. We turn around and before us Kilimanjaro appears in all its glory with its snows. Below, a series of intensely coloured lakes. Teeming with pink flamingos, they are beautiful. Here we see more flamingos than at Natron. The green forests bordering the lakes give them wonderful colours. Besides the flamingos we see many birds, herons, Egyptian ibises, eagles, and others I couldn't name. We head back to the car down a different route and pass another waterfall. As we descend, more animals give us the feeling that this park too is a true Eden. Giraffes graze calmly while watching us from just 10 metres away. We reach the car and leave the ranger. We eat (Deo has prepared another box lunch) and shortly afterwards resume the game drive. At this point we visit the tropical forest.
Here we also see different animals: black-and-white monkeys (guereza colobus), baboons, capuchin monkeys, springbok (antelope) dik-dik. Once the forest is over, in the more open areas of the park there are again giraffes, buffalo, elephants, warthogs, flamingos, eagles, hippos, water deer. The clear and wonderful colours of this park are incredible. The game drive ends around 5 p.m. We head for the exit and from there transfer to the airport. Tonight we have our flight to Italy. It was a beautiful trip. We saw a great many animals, not in a zoo, but in their natural environment. The most vivid feeling I have is that of the Ngorongoro Crater seen from above. An earthly paradise within reach. But if I think back over all the stages of our tour, there are also other moments that come back to me already with nostalgia. It's incredible.
I've been on safari for 12 days but I'd be ready to start all over again.
