We stayed in the far north, in Nungwi, at the Tanzanite Beach Resort. In our opinion it's a place suited to a young, informal clientele and not to families with children or to people looking for luxury and entertainment. It's a resort made up of very few simple bungalows in a typical style, set about three metres above the sea. To reach the beach — "bare rock only" — there's a ladder that makes access easier. With a lovely walk of a few minutes you can reach some "sandy" beaches. The fish-based cuisine is truly excellent, and so are the staff, especially Anuar, the son of the village owner! We visited Eden Beach and the luxurious Gemma dell'Est: very beautiful and dazzlingly white, ideal for a holiday in search of fun, but despite the sea's wonderful colours, swimming is really risky because of the SEA URCHINS.
We had set off with the idea of a holiday of sun and relaxation, and instead we came back far more enthusiastic because we saw a small corner of the real Africa, made of great poverty but also of great smiles!!! A piece of advice for future travellers: don't shut yourselves inside the village, but get around as much as you can and bring gifts (clothes, toys, stationery, shoes, etc.); for us it's a small gesture, while for them it's life. The only sore point is the constant asking for money from the airport staff (one dollar is enough to send them away and stop them wasting your time).
