The story

What islands the Seychelles are…for lovers of the sea and of nature, a true tropical paradise. Very white, always deserted beaches, curving palms that brush a sea of a thousand shades, a unique and precious natural heritage made up of virgin forests, gigantic coconut palms, granite mountains plunging into the sea, giant tortoises, flowers that create a kaleidoscope of colours. The coast is a succession of breathtaking bays and beaches that compete to be elected among the best in the world. And yet, this world that in the imagination appears as an exclusive destination for elite tourism offers a true and authentic slice of daily life, marked by the slow rhythms of its amiable people. The atmosphere you breathe exploring the Seychelles is quite different from the one painted by the catalogues of tour operators and luxury resorts.

The reality is that these islands offer an intense contact with nature and its people, giving the impression of being anything but in a tourist place, but you feel from the very start immersed in this strange and relaxed air offered by this extraordinary place.

La Digue is the undisputed proof: on this small island that seems designed for tourists, with its paradisiacal and enchanting corners, what strikes you most are not its most famous beaches, but the sensation of living, for a few days, in a world completely different from our habits and our rhythms: goodbye cars and technology, here you get around only by bike and its inhabitants far outnumber the tourists: a main street where the main activities take place, children going to school smiling, fishermen returning to the port in the morning, people greeting you cordially in the street, the bells of the only church that mark the feast day.

Among the three islands visited, in my opinion Praslin has the most beautiful sea, La Digue is the most liveable island with the most spectacular beaches, Mahé is the most extraordinary from a landscape point of view, with the high mountains covered in forest plunging into the Indian Ocean, but also the most exploited and chaotic. On Praslin the beaches of Anse Georgette and Anse Lazio are unbeatable for the extent of the beach and the crystal-clear water. La Digue offers dreamy views, but its beaches are very subject to the conditions of the sea and tides; at high tide Anse Source d'Argent and Anse Severe almost disappear. On Mahé I found a rather murky sea, not very clear despite the lovely shades, and a few fine corners.

My guide on what to see in the Seychelles and the best beaches::
