An itinerant trip for eight people plus two Italian guides in 4 off-road vehicles hired on site and equipped with roof tents and camping gear. We landed in Windhoek early in the morning, picked up our 4x4s and headed north. For two days we visited Etosha National Park, seeing zebras, antelopes, giraffes, elephants, rhinos, lions, cheetahs and other animals (unforgettable!). Travelling further north we took a rather demanding track that ran along the Kunene river on the border with Angola as far as the Epupa Falls. From there we headed south, passing through the Himba villages of Kaokoland, stopping at the rock engravings of Twyfelfontein, the Ugab river valley, going around the Brandberg massif and finally reaching the Atlantic Ocean on the Skeleton Coast. Still further south along the coast to see the Cape Cross marine reserve with its huge number of sea lions.
We stopped for two days in Swakopmund and did some sand driving on the dunes that meet the ocean at Walvis Bay. The last stop was Sesriem for the very high dunes of Sossusvlei, where we watched the sunrise before returning once more to the capital, Windhoek, to do some last shopping before departure. The trip was quite demanding but exceptionally beautiful for the variety of things to see. We covered 3650 km with stages of 100 to 450 km a day. We slept 7 nights in tents and the rest in hotels or lodges. Night-time minimum temperatures ranged from 9 to 13 °C and daytime maximums from 16 to 29 °C, humidity from 20 to 89%.
