The story

An old trip on the legendary Guzzi 350 custom... A long haul across France and Spain, and here we are on African soil. At the border post our contact with Moroccan reality begins; we manage to get through in fairly decent time and without too much trouble. The first city on the itinerary is Tetouan; we find a campsite, pitch the tent and dive into the souk; we're immediately surrounded by would-be friends who want to reveal all the most characteristic corners of the city; we manage to resist the first ten or so assaults, but then we end up, inevitably, in the classic carpet shop. After fending off an attempted theft we take refuge in the campsite to "reflect" on our first day in Morocco. We set off again, another day another mood; we head for Meknes, a classic stop on the imperial cities circuit.

In any case we're getting used to the sometimes exasperating insistence of the local lads who want to sell us everything imaginable; as the days go by we're refining our defence technique and can now walk about almost peacefully. After Fez, with a visit to the characteristic tanners' quarter, we continue towards Marrakech; here it's a must to enjoy the chaotic comings and goings of Djema el Fna square, perhaps seated on the terrace of one of the many bars surrounding the square. We tackle the slopes of the Atlas and the landscape becomes fascinating; we reach Ouarzazate, almost dehydrated, the temperature hovering around 48 degrees; we have lunch at the restaurant La Gazelle. In the middle of the meal a whirlwind invades the room, filling everything with dust.

The journey continues through the Draa valley as far as Zagora, a night under the stars in the open desert, then back towards Agadir, Casablanca, Rabat, Tangier, back into Spain, and from Barcelona onwards 1200 km all in the rain.
