Day 118 Mar 2006

It was a special trip, full of colors, smells, flavors, unrepeatable sounds and even more!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ITINERARY: Casablanca-Rabat-Meknes-Fes-Marrakech-Casablanca

FLIGHT: Alitalia. After a long search we found the most convenient fare. Rome-Casablanca- Casablanca-MPX-Rome

INTERNAL TRANSPORT: Train. Extremely efficient, clean and punctual.

TAXI: Petit taxi: 3 pax grand taxi > 3 pax

ACCOMMODATION: Hotels and Ryads. Ryads are typical Moroccan houses used as hotels/guesthouses. There are various categories and prices. Their characteristic is that they reflect Moroccan taste and are buildings with no windows on the street but with a large inner courtyard onto which the rooms or windows look. Before you even enter, right at the door (their beauty reflects that of the riad itself; the more beautiful the door, the more beautiful its interior and rooms) of the riad there's great chaos from the street, but as soon as you cross the threshold you enter a paradise full of flowers, colors and scents and above all absolute tranquility!!!!! We found them online. Rabat: Hotel Balima. It's a bit run-down Meknes: Riad Bahia. Very close to the center. It's splendid!!!!! We recommend it with our eyes closed. The structure and the food are excellent.

The hospitality and helpfulness of Boushra and Abdel struck us so positively that when we think of Morocco we think of them. We'll definitely go back, and then on to the desert. Fes: Riad Lune et soleil. Too bad that the renovation work and the rain affected our stay, but the structure and the food are good. Marrakech. Riad Elsagaya. The structure and the food are good. It's quite far from the center, though reachable with a nice walk. Payment in cash only.

FOOD: Typical Arab cuisine with couscous and other delicacies cooked in tajines, typical earthenware pots with a domed lid.

CRAFTS: Morocco is full of craft markets (souks) where you can buy some beautiful objects: carpets, babouches, lamps, various items in metal/brass, scarves, assorted leather goods, spices of all kinds, sweets, ceramics

It's a very welcoming country......that stays in your heart.....

... special thanks to ektor&dvd for their patience in the souks......
