Mauritius There are four places where, like Pakistan, I made a flying visit, but which nonetheless deserve to be mentioned, since I really was there. (The others are Johnston Island in the Pacific and Doha in Qatar.) Nobody could ever say or prove otherwise. So, since in my display case at home I have an object brought from this country, and when, to the question but where did you get it, I answer in Mauritius, what does that mean? The Air Italy flight coming from Nosy Be in Madagascar has brought and then picked up tourists from this famous island in the Indian Ocean. On landing I see first of all that the cars drive on the left and that there are sugar-cane plantations galore, just like in Fiji. The airport is full of tourists departing; even a Eurofly flight is leaving for Malpensa.
But I'm very envious of the 737 with winglets flying to Durban in South Africa, a city I know well having worked there as a waiter some time ago. From Mauritius I send the usual postcard to Gilberto in Casalmaggiore and also a text to my sister Stefania, who's been here; she replies and asks me what on earth I'm doing in Mauritius. I ask a departing tourist how it was here on this island and he speaks to me positively about it; a pity that now, in the Easter period, the weather is a bit bad, it keeps raining. In any case the impression is that it's a place to pop over to sooner or later, also because I'd like to visit Rodrigues Island, reachable by a small plane from here in Mauritius. It's raining and I can't wait to take off with our Boeing 767 of Blue Panorama. Bye
