Splendid island with a sea of a thousand colours. Narrow but very beautiful beaches, mostly deserted during the week and extremely crowded with Mauritians at the weekend. Beautiful climate, very hot though a little humid because of the season, indeed this is the rainy season. We were lucky, though, and had only a couple of days of bad weather. The island of Mauritius is mountainous and very green inland, and there are many interesting things to see and visit. Technical information: Trip organised entirely on our own. Duration 2 weeks. Flight with Air France in collaboration with Air Mauritius, cost € 910.00 including taxes and agency fees, booked through Evolution Travel.net Accommodation: apartment in Pereybere (Beach Apartments) with two beds, bathroom, kitchenette and terrace, 900 rupees (about € 25.00) per day for two.
Local currency: the Mauritian rupee (our exchange rate was €1 = 35.55 rupees) Contrary to what you hear, Mauritius is a very cheap destination, you can have dinner from 2-3 euros up, excursions cost from 350 rupees up to a maximum of 1200 for the catamaran ones with lunch included, the buses connect all the various localities very well and fares start from 10 rupees. To go to the other side of the island, about 50-60 km away, we spent a couple of euros.
