The story

At last, after 4 months, we returned to Kenya; this time we made a do-it-yourself trip. We booked the flight with Ethiopian Air Lines, very kind, new and comfortable plane. Before leaving, we contacted Giovanni, whom we had already met on the previous trip; he found us a very nice little house in Watamu. We spent 35€ a day, and we were really well; it has a lovely garden, an upper floor where you can rest, with the typical makuti roof. On arrival in Mombasa, the first pleasant surprise: the visa still cost 20€, even though they had said they would raise it:-) We settled in, and in the first days Giovanni took us around Watamu; one evening he went down to the beach to wait for the fishermen and brought us a fantastic red grouper. We cooked it and had dinner on the terrace.

We then spent a day on the blue safari, at Sardegna2, where I must say the colours, the transparency of the sea, the pufferfish, a sea turtle, do honour to the name they gave it!! A day devoted to the sea, with the many songs sung during the day, cheerfulness, sun, sea, new friends. At the end of the first week, we set off on safari; this time we decided to do the safari in Amboseli park and Tsavo East. The road to reach the Amboseli is a bit long, but with a stop for lunch and a bit of rest, watching the villages, time flew by!! And waiting for us there were the first giraffes, the first zebras, the first elephants. Seeing those plains full of elephants, zebras and buffalo was a real spectacle. Beautiful towards evening to go to Lake Amboseli, where there are lots of hippos!! And many hyena dens with cubs.

When small, they're really cute too!!! We slept in a tented camp, well, what can I say, practically a room with a private bathroom in the middle of the savannah at the foot of Kilimanjaro. The second park was Tsavo East, a pleasant return, with a group of lionesses resting under the palms after a well-earned hunt!!! The red elephants, with earth that gets into every corner; by evening we were covered in it, but what a surprise Giovanni had in store for us: we stayed in a new tented camp, a spectacle, each tent with a little private pool in front!! Well, what can I say, this time too Giovanni amazed us! A lovely swim after the safari is wonderful, with the savannah and the animals in front of you even more so!! Our holiday continued, with evenings at home, or at the Kalahari in Watamu, or, by now we trust it, eating mishakiki and chapati at the village stalls.

With the children who call you by your name and give you smiles that make you faint!! Thank you Giovanni, once again we had a wonderful time, a bit like home; now we're here in the cold, but the next destination will be Kenya, where we'd like to do a good 7-day safari, so we can see the famous Masai Mara too!

Don't hesitate to contact Giovanni, he is a serious, sunny person, who will help you live your holiday, and will also know how to say no to the somewhat excessive requests of some tourists. Guys, off-road driving is not done!!! Let's respect this magnificent land and its people!
