For some time my partner and I had been thinking of Kenya as the destination for one of our next trips. After some research on the internet we booked the trip on the website where an 8-day holiday was offered at an establishment in Malindi associated with them, the Lawford's Residence. Besides this we started to inform ourselves on how to organise our excursions/safaris. Almost always it was advised to rely on the beach boys, the boys who on the beach offer excursions at lower costs than those of the villages. So after a few evaluations our choice fell on Tony Manero, who according to what we read was one of the most reliable, so we contacted him and immediately an exchange of sms/emails and directions via facebook began.
In the two months preceding the trip he provided us with all the requested clarifications on the establishments where we would stay during the holiday, on the clothing to bring and advice on whether or not to follow a treatment against malaria. Arriving at the village we were positively struck by the establishment, beautiful, central, with an excellent kitchen. During the presentation phase a small cold shower "Guys do not rely on the beach boys, they are not serious, they hide behind fantasy names so as not to be traceable, such as for example Tony Manero".... like Tony Manero? but that is mine, I have an appointment with him in 2 hours....
So we come to the moment of the meeting but we are no longer very sure of the choice, instead we start talking and he explains to us why he was given that name, he had told a person at the residence that he was waiting for an Italian tourist and indeed while we were talking the person who had told us about him comes out of the residence and seeing us talking moves away laughing. We agree with Tony on the days of the safaris and, at a price lower than the one proposed by the village, we agree on a package that includes the blue safari, 3 days of safari and a visit to Malindi. In these days spent together, Tony proved to be a guide, a professional and a friend.
We spent the afternoon at his house, he introduced us to his family and while my partner had her head filled with braids we spent the afternoon talking about his dreams, about life in Kenya, in short a real day among friends as if we had known each other for years. What can we say then about the safaris, we practically saw almost everything, in fact we will have to go back, elephants, cheetahs, gazelles, warthogs, crocodiles and lions, all seen really up close. Having still a free day we asked Tony to organise another excursion for us and at a friend's price, we were able to get to know Robinson Island and Marafa, the devil's kitchen. Truly dreamlike places After the experience we recommend everyone to rely on Tony Manero for excursions because together with Abu Fede they make the safari experience truly beautiful and cheerful, together they are a hoot. Jambo Tony, jambo Kenya
