Our trip to Kenya was a wonderful surprise. The sea, the landscapes, the animals seen on safari and above all the people stay in your heart. It's nice to be able to think of a trip you've taken and feel that certain things you saw and experienced will stay with you forever! Mariaelena and I stayed at the Twiga Beach Ora Resort in Watamu and at the Safari Voi Wildlife Lodge in Tsavo East park. The beach at Watamu where our resort was, in the famous area called "Sardegna 2", is very beautiful, also because in January there's no seaweed; the beach is very white, the lagoon very large and shallow. The hotel was opened in December 2009 and is very nice. The Safari Voi Wildlife Lodge is a lovely hotel on the edge of the park; below the open-air bar there's a small lake where animals come to drink at dawn and dusk......the scenery is unique and unforgettable.
Before leaving we had contacted from Italy a young man about whom we'd read great things on blogs. As soon as we arrived we called him to meet him in person and from the moment we met him our holiday discovering the beauties of Kenya took off. His name is "Jammy" (jammysafari@yahoo.com), a discreet, friendly, very honest young man......he made our trip to Kenya unforgettable. With him, on the first day we did the Blue Safari in Watamu marine park, which consists of a boat trip outside the coral reef, where among other things we saw a pod of dolphins, snorkelling inside the reef and a lovely lunch on an isolated little beach complete with a lobster grill. We ended the day visiting the town of Malindi, including its markets and a sort of craft workshop where sculptures are made by hand from every kind of wood.
On the second day, again thanks to Jammy, with his friend Dixan we set off for a two-day safari in Tsavo East park. We think you can't go to Kenya and not visit one of the parks.......the animals seen in their habitat are unforgettable, as are the Masai tribes found just outside the park. It would be worth staying much longer and perhaps visiting more than one. We spent the last day in Jammy's company paddling a traditional Kenyan canoe inside the Watamu lagoon until we reached the coral reef so we could swim in the open sea. Time in Africa flows slowly; the sun, the sea and nature set the rhythm of your days. Thanks to Jammy we were able to admire everything we were looking for in Africa...... In the sea at Watamu I also did some amazing dives; I didn't expect to see so much marine life.
If we had to make one complaint about our holiday among the wonders of Kenya........we'd say it was too short.
