Wonderful trip to Kenya..
We stayed at the Eden Village in Watamu, on Jacaranda beach.
A small village, very welcoming, friendly and cordial entertainers, but don't expect anything special, they are few and as indeed explained in the catalogue the entertainment is soft.
Italian chef, so the food is really very good.
The beach, what can I say, remember that in Kenya you don't go for the sea, but for nature.
We liked our beach a lot anyway, very characteristic with the high and low tide phenomenon, which forms beautiful atolls and a splendid strip of white sand, where you can take lovely walks.
I think it is the most beautiful beach in Watamu, in fact the resort is a bit isolated compared to all the others.
Remember though that on the beach it will be very difficult to be left in peace, especially in the first days, because of the "phenomenon" of the Beach Boys: they will try to sell you everything and more, trips, excursions, souvenirs, etc. One piece of advice I can give you is to trust them, as we did; at first they can be a bit insistent, but that is their life and they are only trying to earn something; once you have booked the trips with one of them they will leave you alone, you'll make friends and you'll see that you'll have fun with them, and they will take you on beautiful trips.
We had organised things beforehand from home, again through a very well-known Beach Boy, not knowing that there was so much choice on the spot.
He organised all the trips for us, but also these through other beach boys. In fact he never came with us (a bit of a disappointment) even though we are very happy anyway because we had the opportunity to meet the people I will mention in my story.
Well, let's talk about one of the greatest emotions:
The Safari. We did 3 days and 2 nights, Tsavo East and Amboseli; our guide was John, a really capable and likeable character; he accompanied us, explained and satisfied our every need. If you want to contact him: tel. +254 726 236 734 or by writing to john@superphotosafari.com
He was very good, we saw lots of animals, fantastic landscapes, hyenas, lions and lionesses, but even better the lion cubs. Stunning.
The first night, at Tsavo East, we stayed at the Voi Wildlife Lodge; guys, a real dream with open eyes; we had a splendid room that looked directly onto the savannah, where there is a large waterhole where the animals can come to drink. But for those who want something wilder, then they should stay at the tented camp; unfortunately it wasn't offered to us, but we would have liked it a lot.
On the other hand, in Amboseli park we slept in a tent, beautiful and very welcoming tents, equipped with everything, very characteristic, but obviously, from what we were told, nothing compared to Tsavo, where you are directly inside the savannah; here in Amboseli, even though it was beautiful, it was still a protected and fenced area.
While our 6 friends and travel companions, met on the spot, wonderful people, who accompanied us throughout the trip making it even more unforgettable, organised with other Beach Boys.
Some organised with Jammy: email: jammysafari@yahoo.com
Also a fantastic person, kind, discreet, etc… with whom we then decided to organise the rest of the trips, such as the blue safari, a trip to Malindi and a visit to his village.
While the others organised the trips with Maremoto, a beach boy known on the beach, and they too were really enthusiastic about him.
So whoever intends to spend a holiday in Kenya, I advise you to trust the Beach Boys, both for the trips and for changing money; where you will turn to Bancomat, yes, that is his nickname, then you'll also find Ganzo, Ngoka, Barracuda, etc… In short, there are many names..
What else can I say, a splendid holiday.
Absolutely don't miss the safari and a visit to their villages:
Where you will see the reality of Kenya, of their life and culture, it is an emotional shock, and at the same time it changes your view of life; you will see all these beautiful children. You will see their smiles and the gratitude at receiving even just a single pen.
In short, I get emotional just telling you about it!
So bring lots of pens, sweets and lots of clothes to give away, because they really need them.
Go to their villages or to the orphanage in Watamu.
In short, wherever you turn there is someone who needs you.
Kenya is a magical place, a dream destination, I will return one day.
Happy travels to all those who have the chance and the luck to go there.
A warm greeting to everyone and to our legendary travel companions.
Alice
