There are places that find their way into your heart, love at first sight, and that's what happened between me and Kenya, and after a few experiences in a village in August 2011 I decide to stay at Tatahaus; I'll return in August 2012 and in March 2013.
It's always lovely to spend my holidays between the warmth of the walls of this wonderful house and the affection of my beloved Mamy, wrapped in the magical atmosphere of my much-loved land.
The villa, owned by Edith and Peter, is a few steps from the centre of Watamu, a long avenue where you find Mama Lucy's market, local craft shops, the pharmacy, banks, bars and restaurants, smiling people who will welcome you with great warmth and hospitality and wonderful children who with their big dark eyes will steal your heart.
The nearest beach is that of the Sunpalm, from which at low tide you can easily walk as far as the island of love. A little further away but still reachable on foot is the Mapango beach, from which, with a walk of about 1 hour or perhaps more, you can reach the beautiful Garoda beach, which would otherwise be reachable by Tuk Tuk, the local means of transport.
Tatahaus is a beautiful two-storey villa surrounded by a well-kept, green and lush garden from which very colourful flowers stand out. It has four spacious rooms furnished with great taste, each with a private bathroom, air conditioning and a bed with a mosquito net. Available to guests are the pool, with sun loungers and a shower, and, with the new season, also a cool gazebo to shelter from the hot African sun and sip a little drink in company. The spacious veranda at the entrance of the house is the area where guests can socialise, comfortably seated on the pili pili, and where they can savour the succulent dishes prepared by the now-legendary cook Gilbert. The house has local staff: Conny and Christina who look after the rooms and the house, Kombe and Jackson who look after the garden, the pool, help in the kitchen and serve at the table.
For those wanting a more intimate stay, Tatahaus has the "little house", an apartment adjoining the villa but completely independent. It has a double bedroom, bathroom, kitchen and terrace.
A unique experience, this one just spent in March, first of all because, besides my faithful travel companion, I finally managed to bring my mum, and secondly because, being the only guests at Tatahaus, I spent happy and unforgettable days with Edith and Peter, feeling even more not a simple guest but part of the family, because the affection that binds me to them is great and deep. The memory of the emotions experienced on this holiday will stay in my heart forever!!!!!..... Kwaheri...
