Crossing into Kenya during a trip through southern Ethiopia (see the related diary) to reach the northern shores of Lake Turkana. Having set off from the Ethiopian town of Omorate and skirted the Omo River, we cross a stony desert where there are some settlements of the Dassanech tribe. Our destination is one of the largest African lakes, Turkana, called Rudolf in colonial times. It's an area far from everything, there's no phone signal or electricity, we are the only tourists and we truly feel cut off from the world. We travel with two 4x4s and their drivers, and there are seven of us. After a stop on the shores of the lake we stop at the nearby village where, inside a characteristic hut, we eat the packed lunch that was prepared for us at the lodge in Ethiopia. Surprisingly, although outside it's literally unbearably hot, inside the hut it's quite comfortable.
From here we head back along the same road we came on in Ethiopia.
