Jambo! Jambo! I have just returned from Kenya - Watamu. A big thank you to OmarNero who was my guide for the whole duration of the holiday, leading me to discover his wonderful land. Through emails from Italy he organised all the excursions for me at truly advantageous prices. In Watamu I was enchanted by the breathtaking bay, very white sand... with the high and low tides truly spectacular. The two-day safari to the Tsavo East national park, always accompanied by OmarNero acting as my guide, telling me about the parks, the savannah and the animals that populate it.
The savannah is one of the most fascinating natural destinations in Kenya, red earth like fire, wild nature with the alternation of green spaces and just as many arid ones, silences, gazelles, zebras, giraffes, elephants, warthogs, buffaloes, dik-diks, ostriches, birds, little monkeys, cheetahs, a spectacle under the open sky! Unfortunately I did not manage to see the "longed-for" lion. Oh well, I will take it as an excuse for the next trip to Kenya! On the way back we stopped at a Maasai village where I was able to visit their houses called Maniatte and learn to light a fire with two small sticks and see their dances with truly high jumps, while the road leading to the resort was surrounded by villages full of beautiful children who ran along the edges of the road as the jeep passed; I will never forget their shouts, their smiles, their looks and their hands waving to greet us.
These images will remain imprinted forever in my eyes and in my heart! With OmarNero I visited the village of Watamu, saw the wonders of the sea during low tide, he accompanied me to the marine park for a trip on a glass-bottomed boat, complete with a barbecue on the atoll in the middle of the sea with lobsters and king fish and lots of fresh fruit. At the end of the holiday I understood that although the population of Kenya is poor, poverty has not made them any less cordial, generous and smiling, and this goes to show that what matters is not what you have but what you are! A big hug to my Kenyan friend OmarNero.
Until the next fantastic adventure! If you want to contact him for any information about Watamu, the safaris and Kenya in general, I leave you his email mwadhini2@yahoo.com and mobile +254****7135, he always answers everyone in Italian and if you want he comes to pick you up directly at the airport in Mombasa.
